Leaving the past behind and building a better future – that was the spirit of the post-war period. Today this period is long history, but its architecture has remained: modern schools, universities and town halls, churches, department stores and housing estates. Particularly impressive examples can be found in the Ruhr area, where reconstruction and the economic miracle were experienced particularly intensively. The architectural heritage of this period is now threatened. Many important structures have already been demolished and more will follow. To counteract this, Tim Rieniets started a campaign in 2018 with the state initiative StadtBauKultur NRW. In his talk he will report on his experiences and some of the most exciting buildings in the Ruhr area.

Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Tim Rieniets is a professor for urban and spatial development at the Leibniz University of Hanover and a founding member of the ruhrmoderne e.V. initiative. From 2013 to 2018 he was the managing director of the StadtBauKultur NRW - a state initiative, which promoted high-quality architecture and urban development in the region in a public-effective manner.

Baukultur in Marl is organized by the Skulpturenmuseum and the Adult Education Center in cooperation with the ruhrmoderne e.V. initiative. The event takes place at 7 p.m. in the insel VHS (Wiesenstraße 22, 45770 Marl) in room P1 and is free of charge - please register at 02365/50356699 or www.vhs-marl.de.
