At the beginning of their cooperation, the networking of the different houses in the Capital of Culture year RUHR.2010 with the joint art education program "Collection Tours" (http://ruhrkunstmuseen.ruhr2010.de/) was successfully clarified. In parallel, the museums presented the exhibition series "Mapping the Region" ( http://ruhrkunstmuseen.ruhr2010.de/)
Strengthening cultural education and mediation
With the merger of large and small houses with national and international charisma, the RuhrKunstMuseen will not only sustainably strengthen cultural education and mediation and develop exhibitions that use the means of art to reflect the future of the third largest European metropolitan area Ruhr area, but above all In the long term, too, their collections will become more aware.
Promenade through art history
Under the title "RuhrKunstMuseen. The collection "was the first joint catalog published in 2010. It takes into account the overall idea of the network to make visible the versatile art landscape with its unique collection of modern art. An introductory essay by Georg Imdahl on the" Images of the Ruhr Area "is followed by a 150-page colored illustration section with the masterpieces of the museums. This journey through art history to the present is followed by self-portrayals of the individual museums with photographs of the exhibition spaces and architecture. Among the highlights of the collection include a.o. works by Liebermann, Renoir, Matisse, Lehmbruck, Marc, Macke, Kirchner as well as Albers, Richter, Stella, Schumacher, Höfer or Turrell. The publication, which is available in the 20 museums and bookshops, has been published in German with an English summary.
