The housing estate in Marl, built between 1938 and 1942 with great design effort for the chemical industry in Hüls, is part of the settlement construction from the Nazi era. The facility was designed by Clemens Anders, chief architect at IG Farben, and Max Fischer, head of gardening at IG Farben. The settlement has been a listed building since 2003 - a warning document of the times.

Dr. Hans H. Hanke, historian and monument conservator, was scientific consultant for LWL monument preservation, landscape and building culture in Westphalia from 1992 to 2022. Since 1995 he has held a teaching position in Art History at the Ruhr University in Bochum. He is the author of numerous publications on architecture and urban planning in the Ruhr area.

Baukultur in Marl is organized by the Skulpturenmuseum and the VHS in cooperation with the ruhrmoderne e.V. The event takes place in the VHS die insel (Wiesenstraße 22, 45770 Marl) in room P1 and is free of charge - please register at 02365/50356699 or www.vhs-marl.de.
