A talk by Dr. Hans H. Hanke within the lecture series Baukultur in Marl

Nineteen Protestant and Catholic churches were built in Marl from 1952 to 1979. Three are now protected as monuments, but the other places of worship also have remarkable designs and furnishings. Well-known and less well-known architects and artists created places that offered and for the most part still offer appropriate space for a modern conception of faith. In the lecture, most of the churches will be presented in their original ideas.

Dr. Hans H. Hanke is a historian and monument conservator and was a scientific consultant for LWL monument preservation, landscape and building culture in Westphalia from 1992 to 2022. Since 1995 he has held a teaching position at the Chair of Art History at the Ruhr University in Bochum. He is the author of numerous publications on architecture and urban planning in the Ruhr area.

Baukultur in Marl is organized by the Skulpturenmuseum and the Adult Education Center in cooperation with the ruhrmoderne e.V. initiative.
