Marler Frauenkulturtage 2023 - Guided Tour Barbara Hammer: Would you like to meet your neighbor?
Sunday, 26. März 2023, 2 p.m.
The Marl Women's Culture Days (Marler Frauenkulturtage) will take place from 8th to 26th March this year. Under the motto "More is possible together!", the municipal equal opportunities officer Kim-Karina Bönte has put together an attractive program with interesting lectures and workshops, themed evenings and readings. The Skulpturenmuseum is also taking part in the diverse program with two special tours of the Barbara Hammer exhibition: Would you like to meet your neighbor? With the Marl Women's Culture Days, the city of Marl, together with numerous clubs and organizations, wants to increase public awareness of the situation of women and girls in society, family, work and politics.
The American artist Barbara Hammer, to whom the Skulpturenmuseum is dedicating an institutional solo exhibition for the first time in Germany, is considered a pioneer of queer and feminist video art. In her documentary and experimental films, she focuses on the humorous, almost playful negotiation of sexuality, identity, gender and forms of community. With different autobiographical narratives and through the conscious staging of their own body, Hammer's films told stories from the perspective of a homosexual woman for the first time, whose radical and intimate shots significantly influenced the public debate about heteronormativity and female lust in the USA in the 1980s and 1990s. The artist died in New York in 2019.
