The Skulpturenmuseum Marl is once again taking part in this year's International Museum Day on Sunday, 21st May 2023 with a special tour of the Paracelsus Clinic. It is not uncommon for the stay in and around the hospital to be associated with everyday concerns about health. But the hospital, which opened in 1955 and is now called Klinikum Vest - Paracelsus-Klinik, contains a multitude of top-class works of art that are worth exploring. Already with the realization of the construction project in 1955/1956, the three-part sculpture "The Healing - The Healed - The Sick" by Karl Hartung was realized as part of an art competition. The massive work of art at the main entrance to the clinic thus created an important cornerstone for the emerging sculpture collection in Marl. In 1990 the Klinikum Vest – Paracelsus Clinic was officially set up as a branch of the Skulpturenmuseum. Today, over 30 works of art, including works by well-known artists such as Heinz Mack, Ewald Mataré and Benno Werth, can be discovered in the corridors, in treatment rooms and in the surrounding clinic park.

The public tour on 21st May 2023 at 2 p.m. takes the International Museum Day as an opportunity to illuminate a central branch of the Skulpturenmuseum and to raise awareness of its rich collection. In an entertaining guided tour through the park of the clinic, the art historian Christa Appel reports on the history of the creation and introduces the diverse and different works in the outdoor space. The tour will start on the main entrance of the building in Lipper Weg 11.

With its comprehensive program, the international day of action on 21st May wants to draw attention to the diversity of the museums and invite the interested public to explore the cultural density in the local area. Coordinated by the German Museums Association and in partnership with the International Museums Council ICOM Germany, it will take place nationwide for the 46th time in 2023 and runs under the patronage of the President of the Federal Council, Dr. Peter Tschentscher. The International Museum Day is sponsored by the foundations and institutes of the Savings Banks Finance Group.
