FINISSAGE: Textiles Areal with artist talk
Sunday, 22nd October 2023, 3 p.m.
On Sunday, 22nd October 2023, the Skulpturenmuseum Marl invites you to the finissage of the current exhibition Textiles Areal in the museum rooms at the Martin-Luther-King School. In Textiles Areal, the museum brings together three striking positions in contemporary art with Paulina Hoffmann, Stefan Roigk and Anna Virnich, which question the limits of the material textile in an artistic exhibition context. In doing so, they break away from the expectations of the material in different ways and create new (experience) spaces. Together they propagate a new encounter with textile art in the exhibition space and renegotiate borderline moments of texture, processing and effect.
On the occasion of the finissage, Paulina Hoffmann and Stefan Roigk talk to museum director Georg Elben in an artist talk about the potential and possibilities of textiles, challenges in processing and the transitional moments between sound, sculpture and space.
Paulina Hoffmann (*1994) studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Jürgen Drescher and Lothar Hempel. Hoffmann's large-format works made of PVC reveal a technically very precise approach. The material ability to disrupt requires the artist's entire body in the production process - both in the mechanical processing of the long and heavy lengths of material with the sewing machine and in the manual sewing process with needle and mason's line. She lives and works in Düsseldorf.
Stefan Roigk (*1974) studied fine arts with a focus on sound sculpture and installation with Ulrich Eller. Roigk's atmospheric environments are initially created on paper. He constructed and composed spatial concepts in sketchbooks and later translated them into three-dimensional space. There, the materials of his works, as in the installation “Crystal Castles” in the exhibition Textiles Areal, play with the audience's perception. He lives and works in Berlin.
