On Sunday, 18th June 18 2023 at 2 p.m., the Skulpturenmuseum Marl invites you to the finissage of the current exhibition Would you like to meet your neighbor? of video pioneer Barbara Hammer (1939–2019). Ten selected video works, ranging from shrill, ironic and playful to sensitive, almost contemplative observation, provide a comprehensive and meaningful overview of Barbara Hammer's artistic legacy. In doing so, the video artist always critically questions the current socio-political status quo, comments poignantly and boldly on everyday culture in the USA, the media's handling of the AIDS crisis and the dying of analogue film. To this day, her life's work is considered one of the first and most comprehensive depictions of lesbian identity, love and sexuality.

At the end of the exhibition, the gallery owner Alexander Koch will speak at 3.30 p.m. under the title Artist, activist and woman - the life's work of Barbara Hammer about Hammer's artistic path since 1968, about her feminist and political commitment, and her late success as a pioneer of queer cinema.

Alexander Koch is a curator, author and gallery owner. He is co-founder of Galerie KOW in Berlin, which represents the Estate of Barbara Hammer in Europe. Since 2017 he has been the director of the Society of Neue Auftraggeber.
